The castle is a free-standing, rubble-built oblong tower, measuring 33 1/2' by 27 1/2'. It was originally built probably towards the end of the 15th century, but considerably altered two centuries later. Description The monument is the remains of Piteadie Castle, a late medieval tower house. The castle survives as a rectangular tower with a later stair tower which projects from the northeast elevation. It is located on the south eastern flank of a low hill with wide southerly views over the Forth. Pitteadie Castle occupies an east facing slope at the edge of the hills south-west of Kirkcaldy and overlooks the source of a minor burn now emptying into the Tyrie Burn.
